An American wireless network operation, experienced a data breach on August 17, 2021 and informed its customers that "a bad actor illegally accessed and/or acquired personal data" which includes names, drivers' licenses, government identification numbers, Social Security numbers, date of birth, addresses and phone number. This isn't the first time we have seen data breach where personal data was compromised. It has been a common practice that we have observed over and over again in the 21st century.
The traditional centralized model of data provider and its verification is definitely not working out any more and we have to look beyond this. This is where Self-sovereign Identify (SSI) comes into picture. It has been gaining a lot of attention in the recent past. SSI is an approach to digital identity that gives you, as an individual, complete control of your own identity. Only you hold it, on your own personal digital identity wallet, and only you decide who gets to see what.
